Hoover, Edna N. Reiff
June 26, 1927 - October 30, 2021
Edna Nolt Hoover, 94, of New Holland, passed away on October 30, 2021 in her daughters residence. Born in Bareville, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Suzanna (Nolt) Reiff. She was the loving wife of the late Martin Z. Hoover, with whom she married on November 2, 1948 and shared forty nine years of marriage until the time of his passing on January 2, 2001.
Edna was a member of the New Holland Old Order Mennonite Church. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by children; Verna R. wife of Levi Zimmerman of Ephrata, Arlene R. wife of Elam Zeiset of New Holland, Earl R. husband of Anna (Hoover) Hoover of Mifflinburg, Melvin R. husband of Lucy (Horst) Hoover, Lloyd R. husband of Velma (Wenger) Hoover of Lititz, twenty-four grandchildren and thirty-nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister-in-law; Anna Reiff.
In addition to her husband and her parents; she is predeceased by an infant granddaughter and a grandson, an infant great-grandchild and siblings; Aaron Reiff, Lizzie Martin, John Reiff, Ella Zimmerman, Suzanna Hoover and Samuel Reiff.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021 at New Holland Old Order Mennonite Church at 9:30 AM with Bishop Leon Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be held in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at 179 Orlan Road, New Holland PA 17557.

December 7, 1939 - October 3, 2021
Erma V. Hoover, 81, of Stevens, Pa., died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021, at Lancaster General Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin N. Hoover, in 2020.
Born in Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late Eli Titus and Mary (Kurtz) Good.
She was a homemaker and a member of South Hinkletown Mennonite Church.
Surviving are eight children: Ada Louise Hoover, Narvon, Clair (Lois) Hoover, Morgantown, Esther Mae (Paul) Sadler, Curtiss, Wis., Mary Ann Witmer, Weyers Cave, Va., David Lee (Susan) Hoover, Charles City, Iowa, Edwin Jr., (Louise) Hoover, Ephrata, Joseph (Shelby) Hoover, Ephrata, Philip (Beth) Hoover, Dayton, Va.; 27 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Erla (Good) Sensenig and a sister-in-law, Edna Z. Good.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Ervin Ray Hoover; granddaughter, Katie Mae Sadler; son-in-law, Lester P. Witmer; sister, Bernice (Good) Wenger and husband, Ivan H. Wenger; brother, D. Lamar Good; and a brother-in-law, David W. Sensenig.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Groffdale Mennonite Church with Bishop Amos G. Martin, Harlan Martin, Merle Nolt, and Roy Sensenig officiating. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery. Viewings will be held at Fairmount Homes Farm Crest Chapel on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

Hoover, Etta M.
January 5, 1953 - November 17, 2021
Etta M. Hoover, 68, of 580 Reidenbach Road, New Holland, died Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at her home. Born in Earl Twp., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Mary Z. Martin Hoover.
Etta was a member of the New Holland Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference.
Surviving are two brothers, Mahlon married to Martha G. (Martin) Hoover of Ephrata, and Frank married to Laura B. (Martin) Hoover of New Holland; five sisters, Susie married to Clarence Reiff of East Earl, Sarah married to Walter Martin of Penn Yan, NY, Ruth married to Henry Z. Martin of New Holland, Mary married to Paul H. Martin of New Holland, and Alice married to Reuben Weaver of East Earl; and 38 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Nora Hoover and a brother, Milton Hoover.
A Funeral will be held on Saturday, November 20, at 9:30 A.M. at the New Holland Old Order Mennonite Church with Bishop Titus H. Martin officiating. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery. Hoover, Glenn Richard
March 23, 1955 - January 2, 2021
Glenn Richard Hoover died suddenly Saturday morning, January 2, 2021 at his home in Green Valley, Pima Co., Arizona, due to a heart condition. He was born in Elkhart Co., Indiana on March 23, 1955 to Arthur Marion & Gladys Maxine (Reichelt) Hoover.
The parental Hoover Family moved to Sheldon, Wisconsin in 1961. Glenn attended school there and received his GED.
As an adult he moved back to Elkhart Co., Indiana where he met his wife, Ann Etta Brubaker, daughter of Clayton & Edna (Martin) Brubaker. They were married on October 1, 1978 in Elkhart Co., Indiana by Ann's uncle, Rufus Martin. They lived in Robbins Lake, Jones, Michigan, then moved to Tucson, Arizona in 2007
Glenn had a zest for life and learning. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and talking with everyone.
Glenn is survived by his sisters, Helene Hoover, Elkhart, IN; Valerie Martin, Sheldon, WI; Linda Hoover (Darek Gwadera), Sheldon, WI & Warsaw, Poland; Dorothy (Warren Hege), Richland Center, WI; Lora (Robert Wimer), Sheldon, WI; and two sisters-in-law, Susan Hilty Hoover (Jerry), Chambersburg, PA; and Bonnie Miller Hoover, (Dale) Goshen, IN.
He was preceded in death by his brother Jerry Alan Hoover, September 23, 1996 and his brother, Dale LaVerne Hoover, December 4, 2020.
There is no visitation at this time with a family memorial to be planned later.

J. Aaron Hoover, 74, of 368 W. Maple Grove, Denver, died Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Lancaster General Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Anna M. (Zimmerman) Hoover.
Born in West Earl Twp, he was the son of the late Franklin and Lena (Sensenig) Hoover.
He was a retired dairy farmer and a member of Bowmansville Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children: Luetta married to Warren Hoover, Owen, WI, Nelson married to Ada Mae (Martin) Hoover, Owen, WI, Ellen married to Paul David Zeiset, East Earl, Mervin married to Janice (Zimmerman) Hoover, Denver, John Aaron married to Linda (Martin) Hoover, Curtiss, WI, Anna Mae married to Sylvan Stoltzfus, Terre Hill, 40 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and two siblings: Franklin married to Esther Hoover, New Holland, Mary Eberly, Martinsburg, and three sisters-in-law, Anna Mary Hoover, Morgantown, Alta Hoover, East Earl, Joyce Hoover, Akron.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leroy, David, and Ervin Hoover, a sister Arlene Martin, and brothers-in-law William Martin and Jonas Eberly.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021, at 9:30 at Bowmansville Mennonite Church with Bishop Leon Zimmerman, officiating. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery. Jamin Sam Hoover, infant, of Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 4:56 a.m. April 13, 2021, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
Born Oct. 5, 2020, in Hershey, he was a son of Samuel F. and Loretta S. (Weaver) Hoover of MIfflinburg.
Surviving are two brothers, Merlyn W. Hoover and Mark W. Hoover, both at home; paternal grandparents, John H. and Verna L. Hoover, of Millmont; maternal grandparents, Melvin Z. and Elva M. Weaver, of Mifflinburg; paternal step-grandmother, Esther S. Weaver of Leola.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Michele W. Hoover; maternal grandmother, Esther N. Weaver; and maternal step-great-grandfather, Enos Z. Weaver.
Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at his parents home, 1085 Swegal Road, Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, April 16, with further services at 9:30 a.m. at Mount View Old Order Mennonite Church, Kaiser Run Road, Mifflinburg, with Bishop Ammon Z. Weaver and the home ministry, officiating.

Katie Z. Hoover, 95, of Leola, passed away on Friday, April 30, 2021, at home.
She was born in Brecknock Township to the late Banks M. and Anna E. (Zimmerman) Horning and was the wife of the late Aaron W. Hoover who passed away in 2011.
She was a member of Springville Mennonite Church, Ephrata.
Katie is survived by 5 children, Melvin (Martha) Hoover of Leola, John (Ruth Ann) Hoover of Marietta, Marvin (Anna Mary) Hoover of Womelsdorf, Moses (Arlene) Hoover of Myerstown, and Aaron (Edna) Hoover of Bethel; son-in-law, Kenneth Sauder of Ephrata; 42 grandchildren; 179 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 6 siblings, Michael Z. Horning of Richland, Moses Z. (Edna) Horning of East Earl, Henry Z. (Ruth) Horning of Lititz, Verna Z. (John) Martin of Denver, Alta Z. (Willis) Martin of Lebanon, and Luke Z. (Mary Ann) Horning of Newmanstown; sister-in-law, Etta Horning of Ephrata.

Lewis H. Hoover, 41, of 156 Black Creek Rd., East Earl, died suddenly on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at his home.
Born in East Earl Twp., he was the son of Paul M. and Mary H. (Hoover) Hoover, with whom he resided.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by four siblings: Amos married to Jane Hoover, East Earl, Eva married to Edwin Hoover, Ephrata, Erma Hoover, at home, and Mabel married to Samuel Martin, East Earl.
He was preceded in death by a brother Edwin H. Hoover and two infant brothers.

Lloyd M. Hoover, 44, of New Holland, passed away on November 30, 2021 in his residence. Born in New Holland, he was the son of Jonas M. and Anna F. (Martin) Hoover. He attended Reidenbach Mennonite Church.

Myerstown - Marci Nikole Hoover, 8 day old daughter of Lavon and Rachel Zimmerman Hoover of Myerstown, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021 in her home. She was born on January 14, 2021 in Warwick Township, Lancaster County.

Martha (Weaver) Hoover, 88, of Ephrata, PA, was born February 12, 1933, and died September 8, 2021 at the Lincoln Christian Home. She was the wife of Menno Z. Hoover, they were married since June 2, 1951. Menno and Martha celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on June 2, 2021.
She was a member of Goodville Mennonite Church, East Earl, PA. Martha enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the babies, and she enjoyed quilting. She was the daughter of the late Reuben and Martha (Horst) Weaver.
She is survived by her husband and five sons, Walter (Andrea), Pittsburgh, PA, Wilmer (Deborah), New Holland, PA, Jerry, Lancaster, SC, Joe, (Sandy), Alaska, Roy (Mary Joy), New Holland, PA, and four daughters, Lavina, wife of Calvin Yoder, New Holland, PA, Martha Jane, wife of Carl Zimmerman, Lititz, PA, Elva, wife of Larry Martin, New Holland, PA, Mary Kathryn, wife of Daryl Martin, Lititz, PA, and 20 grandchildren; Jackie, Amanda, Nicholas, Aaron, Krista, Heidi, Dorothy, Becky, Amy, Audrey, Nate, Natalie, Jessica, Tonya, Joél, Mindy, Rachel, Joel, Rebecca, Julia; 24 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers, Clarence and Henry, and 2 sisters, Elva Martin (Henry) and Irene Steffy (Aubrey).
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Leroy, Adam and Reuben, seven sisters, Alice, Marian, Mary, Elizabeth, Barbara, Lydia, and Laura and one grandson, Bryan D. Hoover, son of Wilmer & Deb Hoover and two great-grandsons, Caleb Joel Gingrich, son of Randy & Amy Gingrich and Jayce Gracen Horst, son of Tanner & Tonya Horst.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 13, at 10:00 A.M. at the Goodville Mennonite Church, 1556 Main St., East Earl, PA with the Rev. Bruce Sauder and the Rev. Kelly Martin officiating. Hoover, Miriam S. Martin
November 24, 1931 - October 15, 2021
Miriam S. (Martin) Hoover, 89, passed away peacefully to meet her Savior at her home in Goshen, IN, at 10:10 am, Friday, October 15, 2021, with some of her family by her side. She was born November 24, 1931 to Joseph E. and Mary (Shaum) Martin. She accepted Christ as her Savior in her youth and was a member of Yellow Creek Wisler Mennonite Church. She married David G. Hoover, April 5, 1953. They celebrated 68 years of marriage. Miriam was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, quilts, and spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her faithful prayers.
Miriam is survived by her husband, David Hoover of Goshen, IN; 11 children: Luke (Melba) Hoover of New Paris, IN, Ray (Jeanie) Hoover of Stratford, WI, James (Jerra) Hoover of Wakarusa, IN, Jason (Donna) Hoover of Goshen, IN, Herbert (Emily) Hoover of Goshen, IN, Janice (David) Weaver of Unity, WI, Vera (Kevin) Yoder of Crawford, MS, Rachel (Darrel) Ramer of Cazenovia, WI, Edith (Gene) Martin of Sauk Centre, MN, Mary (Myron) Bontrager of Taylorsville, MS and Doreen (Devon) Zimmerman of Claypool, IN; 68 grandchildren; 170 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Edna Brubaker of Goshen, IN and Rhoda Martin of New Paris, IN and 1 brother, Benjamin (Carol) Martin of New Market, VA.
Mrs. Hoover was preceded in death by her parents; daughter in law, Elsie Hoover; 2 grandsons; 6 great grandchildren; 8 sisters and 5 brothers.

Funeral services will be held at Yellow Creek Wisler Mennonite Church on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 10am, with home ministries of the Yellow Creek Wisler Mennonite Church officiating. Hoover, Raymond R.
January 15, 1940 - August 11, 2021
Raymond R. Hoover, 81, passed away peacefully at Landis Homes in Lititz, PA on Wednesday August 11, 2021 at 11:17 AM. Ray was born on January 15, 1940, in New Holland, PA to parents Benjamin and Lizzie (Reiff) Hoover. After completing 8th grade at Fivepointville School, Ray later earned his GED. He was employed briefly at Bollman Hat Factory, spent the majority of his working life at Weaver Poultry in New Holland, PA, and finished his employment as a truck driver for L & S Sweeteners, Leola, PA. Ray also ran several independent businesses during his life to supplement his income.
Ray is survived by his wife Martha (Weaver) Hoover, Landis Homes, and four children: Linda (Chuck) Jackson of Wellington, FL, Tom (Sally) Hoover of Reading, PA, Dennis (Ruth) Hoover of South Hamilton, MA, and Steve (Audra) Hoover of Juno Beach, FL. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Ben (Laura) Hoover of Pottstown, PA, David (Cathy) Jackson of Jupiter, FL, Elizabeth (Mark) Costello of Stuart, FL, Jon Hoover of Reading, PA, Luke Jackson of Wellington, FL, and Isaac and Gabriella Hoover of South Hamilton, MA, and two great-grandchildren: Ezra Hoover and Ellie Costello. He is also survived by a brother, Rufus Hoover, Clare, MI, and a sister, Ella Hoover, Denver, PA. He was preceded in death by brothers Harry, Irvin, Paul, and John Hoover, and a sister, Laura Martin.
Ray enjoyed conversation, good food, (Ray was a master cheesesteak maker!) and bluegrass and gospel music. He attended New Holland Mennonite Church and was a supporter of Transport For Christ. Suffering a spinal stroke just days before his retirement in February 2012, Ray spent the remaining nine years of his life at Landis Homes, enjoying a variety of social and spiritual life activities and family gatherings. Ray's family wishes to express gratitude to the staff of Ephrata House at Landis Homes for their caregiving over the past three years.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the New Holland Mennonite Cemetery located in the first block of North Railroad Avenue. Public viewing will commence at 9:15 AM followed by a service of burial at 10:00 AM. Due to rising Covid cases, masks are required when in close proximity.

Horning, Harvey Zimmerman
April 21, 1944 - December 20, 2021
Harvey Zimmerman Horning, 77, of Millmont, entered into rest Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at his residence. He was born April 21, 1944, in New Holland, a son of the late Amos Weaver Horning and Lydia Zimmerman Horning. On Jan. 24, 1966, he married the former Ruth Nolt Zimmerman, who survives.
Harvey was a farmer for most of his life and then worked at Zimmerman Supply for 17 years. Harvey was a member of the Mountain View Old Order Mennonite Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife Ruth, are six children and spouses, Erla and Edwin Martin of Millmont, Eugene and Anna Mae (Shirk) Horning of Lewisburg, Esther and Steven Martin of Lewisburg, Ruth Ann and Clarence Reiff of Millmont, Lamar and Dolores (Martin) Horning of North Banger, NY, Leon and Annetta (Hoover) Horning of North Bangor, NY; five siblings, Edna Mae and Aaron Zimmerman of New Holland, Ivan and Ella Horning of Penn Yan, NY, Amos and Ellen Horning of New Holland, Lydia and Ephriam Kilmer of Penn Yan, NY, Alvin and Vera Horning of Penn Yan, NY; one sister-in-law, Mable Horning of Martin Dale, Pa.; 32 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, David Z. Horning; and three grandchildren, Marlin, Anna Ruth and Loran Horning.

Nevin R. Horning, 58, of Denver, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. He was married 35 years to Elaine M. Zimmerman Horning. Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late Amos and Verna Weaver Horning.
Nevin was the owner of Nevin Horning Tractor Sales and Service. He was a member of the Martindale Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Ranelle R. wife of Wendall High of Mohnton, and Melanie A. wife of Jay P. Rissler of Mt. Paul S. Horning, 87, of Ephrata, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Fairmount Homes, Inc.
He was born in East Earl to the late Paul G. and Mary M. (Shirk) Horning and was the husband of Anna W. (Eberly) Horning with whom he shared 67 years of marriage.
Paul was a member of Indiantown Mennonite Church. In his younger years he served as a trustee. During his working years he was a dairy farmer and was a member of the Ephrata Area Young Farmers Association. He volunteered at MCC for many years. Paul enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Paul, husband of Shirley A. (Hershey) Horning of Stevens, Diane M., wife of Ken Haller of Schaefferstown, Lisa D., wife of Kelly Moyer of Ephrata, Pam L., wife of Rich Esh of New Holland; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a brother-in-law, John Snyder of Ephrata.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ivan Horning, Edna Zimmerman, Anna Martin and Mary Snyder.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2021, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Indiantown Mennonite Church, 255 Indiantown Road, Ephrata. Horst, Carolyn L. Peterson
July 18, 1926 - April 9, 2021
Carolyn L. Horst peacefully slipped away in her sleep, with her family at her side, Friday, April 9, 2021, at Garden Spot Village, New Holland, PA. She was 94 years young. Carolyn was the beloved wife of John L Horst, who passed away in November 2019. They were married for 70 ½ years.
She was born on July 18, 1926 to Opal and Clarence Peterson in Lovilia, IA. When Carolyn was 11 years old, her mother died and the children were moved to California to be raised by their aunt, uncle and grandparents.
They were life-long residents of Akron. After retirement, John and Carolyn became snowbirds and loved spending winters at their cottage in the Pinecraft Community of Sarasota, FL.
Carolyn graduated from Pasadena College in 1948. In the fall of 1948, she began teaching in Earlimont, CA where she met fellow teacher, John Horst. On June 4, 1949, John Horst and Carolyn Peterson were married under a full moon in California.
Carolyn stepped aside from teaching for 14 years while raising her 5 children and returned to teaching 4th and 5th grade in the Ephrata School District. She introduced outdoor education, by developing an outdoor area where children could use the outside "classroom" to do creative writing, mathematics and journaling. She also introduced the "Camp Swatara" experience, providing students environmental activities and an overnight camping trip. This program continues today and has spread to other school districts. She successfully challenged her students to write letters to the Ephrata Fair officials to put trash cans along the fairway, to collect trash instead of having it tossed on the ground which was the custom at the time.
John and Carolyn spent six months on a sabbatical, visiting Universities all around the world, on a special ticket that provided air transportation as long as they traveled only east. They enjoyed traveling to many other areas around the world. When the children were younger, they enjoyed traveling by camping with the family around the United States and Canada. Their love of traveling and camping has been passed down through the genes to their children and grandchildren.
Carolyn was a music and sports enthusiast all her life. She supported the children, grandchildren, and of, course the Philadelphia Phillies.
Carolyn is survived a daughter: Susanne Horst (Eugene) Brenneman of Kinzers; and 3 sons: David K. (Vonnie Lausch) Horst of Akron; Mark J. (Luanne) Horst of Ephrata; and Daniel R. (Diane) Horst of Lititz; and daughter-in-law Dawn Horst of Lititz. Carolyn is also survived by the following grandchildren: Nathan (Tina) Brenneman of Strasburg, Cristy Brenneman of Dallas, TX; Becky (Jay) Lammey of Lancaster; Peter (Becca) Brenneman of Philadelphia; Heather (Patrick) Currie of Colorado Springs; Heidi (David) Hynd of Brisbane in Queensland in Australia; J. Ryan Horst of Lebanon; Stephanie (Eric) O'Conner of Salt Lake City, UT; Mark James Horst (MJ) of Groveland, FL and Amanda Horst of Pittsburgh and granddaughter-in-law, Amy Weik (Shawn Weit) of Lititz. She was very proud of her great-grandchildren: Karli and Maddison Brenneman, Keeton Konzelmann, Titus and Roscoe Brenneman, Alexander and Quinn Currie; Hudson and Riley Hynd; Naomi and Abram O'Conner; and Olivia and Tanner Weik. Carolyn is also survived by her sister, Carol Hakeem, Stockton, CA.
In addition to her husband, John, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son Jonathan L. Horst , a grandson, Dale Weik, her sister Donna Joy Misko, her brother Victor Peterson, and her aunt and uncle, Dr. JR and Florence Fillmore, who raised her.
Carolyn was a member of the Akron Mennonite Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Garden Spot Village, specifically Springwood Household and the Recreational Therapy Department, for the excellent loving care they have given both Mom and Dad over the past 7 years. We also want to thank Hospice.

Curvin S. Horst, 52, of Phelps, NY passed away at his sister’s residence in Wolmesdorf, PA on Thursday, December 9, 2021.
Born in Quarryville, he was the son of John M. Horst of Richland, and the late Elva W. Sensenig Horst.
Curvin had attended Fairmount Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference in Quarryville, for many years. He had been a helper on the family farm.
Surviving besides his father are five sisters, Erma Louise Horst of Morgantown, Twila Mae wife of Melvin M. Oberholtzer of Womelsdorf, Lucille Anne wife of Clair M. Good of East Earl, Loretta S. wife of Elvin H. High, Jr. of Ephrata, and Orpha Jean wife of Jason N. Eberly of Myerstown; two brothers, Kenneth S. husband of Lillian M. Martin Horst of Phelps, NY and Marlin S. husband of Carolyn B. Hurst Horst of Narvon; a brother-in-law, Aaron Z. Nolt, Jr. of Shoeneck.
He was preceded in death by a sister Elva Jane Nolt.

Eli H. Horst, 92, of Leola, PA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 1, 2021. He was the husband of Anna (Wise) Horst, with whom he shared seventy-one years of marriage.
Born in Farmersville, PA he was the son of the late David N. and Lydia (Hoover) Horst.
He retired from Evans Eagle Burial Vaults in 2001, where he was employed for forty-five years. He was a member of Pequea Mennonite Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven children: Lorraine wife of Lloyd High of Myerstown, Leonard husband of Marian (Zimmerman) of Ephrata, Anna Ruth of Leola, Pauline wife of the late John Martin of New Holland, Melvin husband of Marie (Weaver) of Lititz, Joanne wife of Titus Gehman of Newburg and Doris wife of Lamar Martin of Leola, thirty one grandchildren, seventy five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and six sisters: Susanna Wenger, Lizzie Wenger, Annie Horst, Sadie Zimmerman, Mary Nolt and Lydia Wise.

Ervin M. Horst, Jr., 73, of Ephrata, died Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Chambersburg Hospital from injuries sustained in a farming accident. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Etta M. (Burkholder) Horst. Born in East Earl Twp., he was the son of the late Ervin and Ada (Sensenig) Horst.
Ervin was a lifelong farmer and a member of South Hinkletown Mennonite Church.

Harold Mellinger Horst, 90, of Ephrata, went home to be with Jesus, whom he loved and served and longed to meet, on Friday, February 12, 2021, at home.
He was born in Hinkletown to the late Aaron Sauder Horst, Sr. and Anna (Mellinger) Horst and was the husband of Arlene (Eckert) Horst with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.
He was a founding member of Hinkletown Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday school and served in various leadership roles in the life of the church.
Harold owned and operated a roofing and metal fabricating business for over 40 years. He attended Lancaster Bible College-evening institute and Lancaster School of Business, and was a former member of Stony Brook Hunting Camp for 65 years. He enjoyed reading, traveling, working with his hands, and excelled in record keeping. Harold loved his wife and was delighted to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a gentle spirit and an engaging sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by three children, Rickey D., husband of Carmen (Weaver) Horst of Leola, Audrey A., wife of Jay Martin of New Holland, Jeffrey S., husband of Julia (Steffy) Horst of Gordonville; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; two sisters and two great-grandsons.

Heidi Jo Horst, 34, of New Holland, entered into rest on April 18, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of Marvin and Carolyn Zimmerman Horst of McAlisterville.
Heidi had been a teacher and had taught at Little Britain Mennonite School and Myerstown Mennonite School. She had also worked at Christian Aid Ministries. She was a member of the Pequea Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.
Surviving besides her parents is a sister, Amy Joy Horst of New Holland; four brothers, Jordan Keith Horst of McAlisterville, Justin Kent Horst husband of Regina Lehman Horst of Bethel, Eric Marvin Horst and Kurtis David Horst both of McAlisterville; a niece, Hannah Brooke Horst and two nephews, Micah Brent Horst and Isaiah Lamar Horst whom she loved dearly; maternal grandfather, Luke Ray Zimmerman of Farmersville; and a paternal grandmother, Alma O. Horst of Quarryville. She was preceded in death by a maternal grandmother, Arlene Zimmerman and by a paternal grandfather, Ezra Z. Horst.

Ira W. Horst, 73, of New Holland, entered into God's presence on March 23, 2021 at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Ira was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a friend to everyone. He was born Feb. 28, 1948 to the late Amos and Mary Horst, one of nine children. He and his wife Helen (Bowman) Horst celebrated 50 years of marriage this past June. How can 50 years seem so short?
Ira was a skilled truck driver for many years, entering 48 of the 50 states and Canada. More recently, he worked for Voganville Masonry until his illness. Ira knew the Lord and was a grateful member of Weaverland Anabaptist Faith Community.
Ira was a fun-loving "people person" who made friends easily. He was a good storyteller and a good listener with a heart for people who were hurting. He is already deeply missed.
Being a hard worker, he didn't make much time for hobbies, although he did enjoy flea markets and collecting Fostoria glassware. He also enjoyed, with Helen, having a stand at the New Holland Fair and doing occasional catering. He took great pride and joy in his family, with the grandchildren being a special delight!
Ira's family stands proud of him for courageously fighting a good fight and giving it his best shot.
Besides his wife, Helen, he is survived by 2 sons, Darin and wife April (Warfel), East Petersburg and Dixon, companion of Elisa Day, Kinzers and grandchildren, Ayla Musser and Olivia, Grace and Wyatt Horst. Also surviving are brothers Ephraim (Loretta) of Sarasota, FL, Isaac (Martha) of Millen, GA, Edward (Fern) of Chambersburg, PA, James (Linda) of Frederick, MD and Elmer (Annette) of Leola. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Lois Horst of Hagerstown, MD and a brother-in-law, Allen Eshleman of Mercersburg, PA and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Nelson Horst, and brother, Norman Horst, and a sister, Mary Ellen Eshleman.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, March 29, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Weaverland Anabaptist Faith Community with Pastor Brian Martin, C. Kenneth Martin and Rodney Horst officiating. Interment will be private in the adjoining church cemetery. Myerstown - Marlin Ray Horst, 77, of Myerstown, PA passed away peacefully with children at Hershey Medical Center on Thursday, November 18, 2021. He was born on May 18, 1944 to the late Earl B. and Grace M. (Horst) Horst. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Betty) (Martin) Horst. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage.
Marlin was employed for 44 years at Rigidply Rafters in Richland.

Mary Emma Horst, 87, a resident of Timberville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021, at the home of her daughter, Gloria, where she has resided since June 2020.
Mrs. Horst was born Sept. 8, 1934, in Dalton, Ohio, and was a daughter of the late David E. and Ethel (Wenger) Horst.
She was a lifelong homemaker, who loved people, often sharing her hospitality with them. She was a member of Glade Run Mennonite Church in Kensington, Ohio.
On June 30, 1957, she married Arthur Gerald Horst, who survives.
Also surviving are her children, Gloria Horst and husband, Dwain, of Timberville, Jeanette Troyer of Gillette, Wyo., Virgil Horst and wife, Laura, of Columbiana, Ohio, Charlene Albrecht of Carrollton, Ohio, Phyllis Hershberger of Halsey, Ore., Jerry Horst and wife, Edythe, of Milton Freewater, Ore.; sister, Martha Horst of Orville Ohio; sister-in-law, Ruth Horst of Nappanee, Ind.; brother-in-law, Elvin Zimmerman of Dalton, Ohio; 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
There will be calling hours on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Glade Run Mennonite Church.

Horst, Milton Kurtz
April 23, 1932 - November 21, 2021
Milton Kurtz Horst, 89, a resident of Garden Spot Village, New Holland, PA passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021. He was married 69 years to Kathryn Martin Horst. Born in Earl Township, son of the late Lena Kurtz Horst Zimmerman and the late Milton M. Horst.
Milt owned and operated Horst Poultry Farm and Hatchery from its founding in 1952 and was the owner/manufacturer of the End-O-Rat company. He was the CEO of Penn Embryo for flu vaccine eggs from 1988 until he retired in 2002. Though he only completed eight years of school, and a college course for Poultry Inspector, he can list many corporate and community accomplishments.
Milt was a member of Hinkletown Mennonite Church; in his lifetime served as janitor, kitchen committee, secretary, usher, trustee, and church council.
He was a member of the New Holland Rotary club, and member of the Gideons international Lancaster East camp. Milt served 50 years on Black Rock Retreat’s board. He was a member of the Earl Township Planning Commission and served as president. He served on several bank boards. He enjoyed membership at Bushy Bungalow in Potter County for hunting. As a big game hunter he traveled to the Rockies and Alaska for his prized trophies.
He wintered in Sarasota for thirteen years and enjoyed fellowship with the Bahia Vista Mennonite Church, now called Sarasota Community Church. He helped to found the Palo Alto Mission Church of the Lancaster conference, now called Mountainside Bible. Because of his benevolent financial support, many churches, missions and individuals thank Milt.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Karen J. Stambovsky, married to David Stambovsky, Pittsfield, MA and Brenda J. Green, married to Henry Green, Leola, PA and a daughter-in-law Violet Horst, Lancaster, PA. He was pre-deceased by a son, Curtis R. Horst and a grandson, Nigel Green.
He greatly appreciated visiting with his grandchildren: Trevor Horst, Collin Horst, Nigel Green, Vanessa Ellis, Katerine Smith, Rachel Herr, Lauren Green, Jonathan Stambovsky, Micah Stambovsky, Seth Gabriel, and Ava-Lena Stambovsky. Milt also delighted in great-grandchildren: Serena Green, Kaylee Mentzer,

Milt and Kathryn enjoyed traveling by motorcycle with their friends to Alaska, Canada, the West Coast, and more. Other travels were to Europe, Scandinavia, China, and Iceland. They fondly remembered a mission trip to Hawaii working on the YWAM base.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 10, at 10:00 A.M. at Hinkletown Mennonite Church, 2301 Division Highway, Ephrata, PA with the Rev. Glenn Sauder officiating. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery. A Viewing will be held at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Avenue, New Holland, on Wednesday, December 8, from 2-4 PM and at Hinkletown Mennonite Church on Thursday evening, December 9, from 6-8 PM and on Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.

Horst, Samuel Levi
July 18, 1919 - January 6, 2021
Samuel Levi Horst died on January 6, 2021 in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He was 101. Samuel was born on July 18, 1919 in Berks County, Pennsylvania to Elmer and Katie (Buckwalter) Horst.
Growing up during the Depression, he combined thrifty resourcefulness with a drive toward education, completing high school at night while working. Samuel’s pacifist convictions and conscientious objector status were rooted in his faith. These beliefs led him to enroll in Civilian Public Service, which included time in California as a firefighter and at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in New Jersey. Higher education included studies at Eastern Mennonite College, Goshen College, American University, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Virginia where he earned his Ph.D. A historian, Samuel dedicated his life’s work to teaching and research at Eastern Mennonite University, authoring and co-authoring numerous books and articles about Mennonite history and the Black experience during the Civil War and Reconstruction. He integrated his scholarship with engagement in community efforts such as leadership on the local Human Relations Council, and broader involvements such as Amnesty International.
Samuel married Elizabeth Good (d1991) on June 19, 1948 and together they raised six children, settling in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. Elizabeth’s creativity and skillful expertise in home arts, her hard work, and leadership as she managed the large household deeply enriched his life and allowed him to pursue his own dreams. Samuel and Elizabeth were members of Park View Mennonite Church in Harrisonburg, which supported their faith in a loving and merciful God. Together, they found a close community in the Colloquy Group there.
Samuel thrived on interactions with extended family, neighbors, friends, colleagues, and former students, and was an especially-loved uncle to many. Other enthusiasms included making connections with strangers, neighborhood walks, Saturday morning tennis, swimming, purposefully getting lost on country drives, reading aloud to his young children, and visiting geographically or historically significant sites in the Shenandoah Valley. Later, he looked forward to weekly dinners with faithful friend Kenton Brubaker. His avid news consumption and knowledge of geography and political science informed his active objection to war and to social and racial injustices. He expressed compassion for those in need in daily mealtime prayers. Samuel’s sense of adventure in pursuing his academic goals provided expansive new experiences for his family with temporary relocations to Washington DC, Baltimore MD, and Charlottesville, VA.
In 1995, Samuel and Mary Ellen Stutzman (d 2013) were married, providing a new partnership for both during their later years. Mary Ellen brought generous companionship to Samuel and warmth and acceptance to the family.
Survivors include his children, Kenneth Horst (Mary Beth Wills) (Ellarica Moatz, d2004), Hannah Horst Schertz, Sylvia Horst (Ross Bender), Barbara Horst, Mary Horst (David Buchanan), and Carol Horst (Bruce Shafer); sister Orpah Kurtz and brother John Horst; grandchildren Jessamyn Schertz, Julian Bender, Ava Buchanan, Dylan Shafer, William Buchanan, and Maria Shafer; step-grandchildren Lewis Morton, Katreniah Washington, and Tiffney Gilkes; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, step-grandchildren, and step-nieces and nephews.
Samuel is predeceased by Elizabeth; Mary Ellen; granddaughter Julia Elizabeth Schertz; brothers Irvin, Paul, Elmer, Leon, Luke, and Clarence; and sister Anna Kathryn.
Samuel’s children are profoundly thankful to the staff and administration at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in Harrisonburg for their close collaboration with the family and consistent dedication to Samuel’s ongoing and later COVID-related care.

April 25, 2001 - July 10, 2021
Alex Louis Hostetler, beloved son of Louis and Iris Hostetler, was born on April 25, 2001 at Reeds Spring, MO. He was suddenly taken from our midst on July 10, 2021 in a drowning accident during cattle roundup at the age of 20 years, 2 months, and 15 days. He was born with a heart condition, having surgery at 6 months old. The doctors were amazed how good he was doing for how things were. It didn't keep him from doing what he wanted to do. He accepted Christ as his Saviour and was baptized on October 11, 2015 at Bethel Amish Mennonite Church, remaining faithful unto his death.
He will be greatly missed by his sorrowing parents, 2 sisters, Eileen (18), Irina (2); 4 brothers, Kelly (12), Kadyn (9), twins Alan and Ashton (6); paternal grandparents Arthur and Arlene Hostetler, maternal grandparents Richard and Donna Hostetler, 1 uncle, 7 aunts, and 27 cousins. He will also leave an aching void in the youth group.
He was preceded in death by uncle Alan John, and cousins Kensie and Kaleb.
Alex was a horse lover at heart spending many hours in the saddle. Helping his dad on the ranch or with whatever needed to be done. His Uncle Gene will deeply miss his partnership in their business, Double H Horses. They spent a lot of time together, working at the ranch. The fun times at Grandpas will never be the same again without his sense of humor and easygoing banter. Alex was not afraid to talk about the deeper things of life, it was important to him that we are "real Christians”. Those closest to him remember lots of conversations about Heaven and the longing to be there.

Ervin L. Hostetler, 87, of Roanoke, IL, passed away at 8:14 am on Sunday, February 14, 2021, at Loft Rehabilitation and Nursing in Eureka, IL. He was born on May 26, 1933, in Roanoke, IL, to John E. and Amanda S. (Kennell) Hostetler. He married Barbara E. Christner.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara; daughter, Julie Hostetler; son, John Hostetler; sisters, Lorene Hostetler and Marilyn Hostetler; brother-in-law, Jake Christner, all of Roanoke; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Nora Christner, Anna Hostetler, and Cathryn Hostetler.
Ervin was a life-long farmer in Roanoke. He was a member of North Linn Amish Mennonite Church in Roanoke.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at North Linn Amish Mennonite Church, 1794 County Road 1500 East, Roanoke with church ministers officiating. Fern (Yoder) Hostetler, 95, of Harrisonburg, died March 2, 2021, at Yoder House, Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community.
Mrs. Hostetler was born May 15, 1925, in Johnstown, Pa., and was the daughter of the late Oscar D. and Alice (Hershberger) Yoder.
On July 9, 1948, she was married to Mervin J. Hostetler of Louisville Ohio, who died Nov. 3, 2014. Two sisters, Ruth Y. Hunsberger and Loretta (Toppy) Allison, preceded her in death.
She graduated from Goshen College, Goshen, Ind. She was an elementary teacher in the public schools of Conemaugh Township near Johnstown, Pa., and Altoona Area Schools, Altoona, Pa., for a total of 29 years. For many years she taught Bible School and Sunday School and was active in Mennonite Women in Allegheny Mennonite Conference and Harrisonburg, Va.
Music was always an important part of her life. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing in church choirs and with the local Valley Greeters Chorale. Since moving to Harrisonburg in 1987, she has been a member of the Park View Mennonite Church.
Fern is survived by 20 nieces and nephews.
A virtual memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021, with Pastors Phil Kniss and Paula Stoltzfus officiating. The sanctuary will be closed to the public. Alex and Layne shared a passion for horses and spent many hours roping and riding on their family ranch. Layne was a quiet, dependable person, dedicated to whatever he needed to do. How we’ll miss his cheerful help- running errands, mashing potatoes, making dip for Mom, and fixing cereal for sister Irina. It was no surprise to us that he went in to help his brother without hesitation. His steady, quiet ways carried over into his horse training, persevering till he accomplished what he set out to do. We know that he pondered the things of God deep in his heart and prayed often.

Lydia N. Hostetler, 89, of Topeka, died at 4:25 am, on Tuesday, June 8 at her residence. She was born on April 8, 1932, in LaGrange County, to Noah J. and Amanda Mae (Bontrager) Raber. On April 23, 1953, in Honeyville she married Ervin D. Hostetler; he died June 3, 2017.
Surviving are two daughters, Joan (Allen) Wengerd of Whitehall, WI, Mary Etta (Paul) Nisley of Topeka; son, Marvin (Lena) Hostetler of LaGrange; 24 grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren; foster sister-in-law, Mary Bontrager of Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, David Allen Hostetler; two foster brothers, Levi D. and Amos D. Bontrager; three foster sisters, Katie Beechy, Elizabeth Frey, Mary Lehman.
Lydia was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 9 and all day Thursday, June 10 at the Paul Nisley residence, 3175 W. 350 S., Topeka. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Friday, June 11 also at the residence. Services will be conducted by Bishop Ervin Bontrager, Jr. and the home ministers. Mahlon E. Hostetler, age 76, of Nappanee, died at 12:41 pm, Saturday, March 6, 2021 at his residence after a 3 year battle with cancer. He was born in Middlefield, OH to Eli and Fannie (Miller) Hostetler on August 2, 1944.
He married Marie Bender on April 24, 1969. Mr. Hostetler was a self employed carpenter and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Surviving is his wife, Marie; children, Michael (Rachel) Hostetler, Marcia (David) Borntreger, Mary Jane (Dean) Miller, all of Nappanee, Marlon (Mary Adena) Hostetler, Wakarusa, Mervin Hostetler, Merle (Barbara) Hostetler, Mahlon Jr. (Vonda) Hostetler, Marlene (David) Farmwald, all of Nappanee; 42 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; half sister, Fannie Wolf, Ohio; sister, Laura Fisher, Ohio; and brothers, Lester (Sara Ann) Hostetler, Florida, Joe Hostetler, Ohio, Albert (Katie Ann) Hostetler, Illinois, Eli (Mary) Hostetler, Ohio, Marvin (Mary) Hostetler, Ohio,and Robert (Bessie) Hostetler, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; a great granddaughter, Marissa Kay Miller, brother, Mervin Hostetler; half sisters, Mattie Hostetler, Mary Berdnardi; 2 brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.

Hostetler, Mary Ann Hostetler
December 14, 1933 - December 9, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Ann Hostetler announces her passing on December 9, 2021, in Goshen. She died four days short of her 88th birthday.
Mary Ann was born December 14, 1933, in Howard County, to David J. and Millie (Anderson) Hostetler. On April 5, 1953, Mary Ann married Wayne Hostetler. He passed away on December 18, 2010.
Mary Ann was a lifelong follower of Jesus, active in the church as a Sunday School teacher, Kid's Club volunteer, and in sewing circles. She volunteered with Faith Mission, Chamberlain Elementary School and many other organizations. Mary Ann lived her life for others, always putting others first. She was happy to have others receive the credit while she worked in the background meeting the needs of those she loved and served.
She was famous for her knotted quilts, which she made by hand for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her quirky expressions. At the end of meals, for example, she would often exclaim, "Well, we did it again!" When teased, she would smirk and say, "Oh, you guys!" She was also a lifelong prankster, notorious for having a mischievous twinkle in her eye.
Mary Ann will be fondly remembered for her world-famous oatmeal chocolate-chip cookies. "This batch is 'not quite right and not fit to eat," she would invariably apologize, as she placed a plate of delicious, flawless cookies on the table. Her frozen peanut-butter pies will also be a loss to her fans in Goshen.
Mary Ann is survived by a son and four daughters: David (Pat) Hostetler of Terre Haute, Ruth (Alan) Sharpe of Saskatoon, Canada; Sheryl Hostetler of Manta, Ecuador; Phyllis (LoWayne) Yoder of Sturgis, Michigan; and Danell Hostetler of Goshen, Mary Ann is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, as well as four sisters and two brothers: Betty (Menno) Beachy of Kokomo, Virginia (John) Wenger of Goshen, Silvia (Perry) Stutzman of Hutchinson, Kansas, Lloyd Hostetler of Kokomo, and Amos (Janice) Hostetler of Goshen, and Kathy Hostetler of Kokomo, and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her sister, Sarah (Tom) Halberda and her sister-in-law, Kaye (Lloyd) Hostetler.
Mary Ann was a member of Living Water Mennonite Church, Goshen.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 18, 2021, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. at Living Water Mennonite Church, 2815 Dierdorff Road, Goshen, where a 1:30 p.m. funeral service will follow.
A private family burial will follow.

Hostetler, Trent Alan
August 15, 1986 - July 2, 2021
My dear husband, Pop, son and brother, Trent Alan Hostetler, was born on August 15, 1986, at Hope, Arkansas to Vernon and Lois Hostetler. He was killed in a tragic airplane accident on July 2, 2021, in a Communal Section of Leogane near Port-au-Prince, Haiti at the age of 34.
He with his wife and three children were returning from the states after a month-long furlough with family and friends. In his youth he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized on the confession of his faith. He was a faithful member of Lighthouse Chapel of Richland Center, WI at the time of his death. He had been serving as administrator at the Gospel to Haiti Mission near Petit Goave, Haiti since July 2020 when he started a 3-year commitment. The family flew into the Port-au-Prince airport at 6:00 but still had to travel the remaining miles to their Mission Base. With all the recent gang violence in Haiti, all the missionaries going south use planes even though it is only a few hours' drive by car. The first plane going only accommodated 9 persons, allowing room for Trent to travel with his family but not his fellow missionary, John Miller. Rather than leave John behind alone, Trent unselfishly gave up his seat on the first plane to stay back with him. It was agreed that the ladies and children would travel ahead leaving Trent and John to follow on the next plane which was due out in 20 minutes. When the first plane landed the ladies received word that the men were switching planes because of problems but they are coming on another one and should be there soon. After another hour and no plane, they started making calls and discovered there had been a plane crash, but it was not certain if was theirs. Haitian Missionaries Andy Faller, Bryan Beachy, Jess Meyer, Trevor Byers, Dr. Malès Mainviel, Jeannot Sainton, and Luis Menas formed a search crew during the night and continued till the wreckage was found and the bodies recovered. Many grueling and dangerous hours were spent searching in the Haitian mountains that night while at home in the U.S. the family was waiting together, praying and crying out to God, desperately groping for any news. Witnesses later would tell us that their plane came through a long valley appearing to have trouble gaining altitude, then crashing into the side of the mountain. After a long night of waiting, it was confirmed that both John and Trent had died in the plane crash.
Trent spent his early boyhood years with his parents and siblings on a chicken and cattle farm near Columbus, AR. Many hours were spent gathering eggs, putting up hay, checking the cows on the fourwheeler and just enjoying life as a young family on the farm. In the spring of 2002, at the age of 16, he with his family moved to a poultry farm near Clarksville, AR. This was an exciting move for Trent, as the farm was located close to Horse Head Lake and the Ozark National Forest, that afforded many hours of hunting and hiking which was a joy to his heart. Not only did he have a love and passion for the great outdoors, but also a skill that brought his younger cousins to him for advice and tutoring and he served as a mentor to many of them. In spite of his deep passion and love for the outdoors, when he agreed to serve in the mission field, he set that passion aside and put his whole heart and life into serving in the Lord's kingdom. Trent was known for putting his whole heart into whatever he did and could always be depended on. We will always remember his excellent marksmanship, good work ethics, and steady dependability.
In 2011 he moved to the Muscoda, WI area and on May 12, 2011, married Erica Jo Hostetler, daughter of Eric and Amanda Hostetler. They enjoyed over 10 years of marriage, walking together and with God, through both good times and hard and experiencing many blessings as a couple. Left to cherish fond memories are his wife, Erica; one daughter, Rylie Nicole (8); two sons, Hunter Reed (7), and Cameron Bryce (4). They, as a family, were eagerly anticipating the arrival of another baby girl. He will also be keenly missed by his parents Vernon and Lois; five sisters and two brothers, Konni and husband Dave of Osceola TX; Klara and husband Weston of Clarksville, AR; Gwen and husband Austin of Clarksville, AR; Gayla and husband Eugene Headings of Clarksville, AR; Trisha and husband Blane Hostetler of Windyville, MO; and Eric (20) and Morris (17) of the home. Also, his step grandmother Shirley Mrs. Jacob Kropf of Sedalia MO, eight uncles, five aunts, 2 step uncles and 5 step aunts and a host of cousins and friends.
Preceding him in death are his paternal grandparents, Andy and Ruth Hostetler, maternal grandparents Jacob and Darlene Kropf, two uncles Marvin and Kevin, one niece Brandi, and 13 cousins. Only 8 days following his death while family was waiting for body transport, cousins Alex (20) and Layne (15), were suddenly called home in a tragic drowning accident.
As the administrator at Gospel to Haiti missions, He fulfilled his calling in a very passionate way. The impact he made in just a year's time on so many people's lives, and the countless hearts he touched while serving his term are a lasting legacy and inspiration to those left behind. Trent & Erica truly demonstrated by their lives that what you believe impacts the way you live. They served the Haitian people and the staff at the mission with love and strength. He enjoyed helping out at the clinic and designed a birthing center that he was in the process of building. He was fondly known as "Boss" to many but was much more than just that. He was their friend and filled the role of a "Dad" to many at the Base. He will be greatly missed by all, but the life he lived and the legacy he left, still lives on in the very hearts and lives he touched. We treasure the memories made on their last trip home to visit family and friends. Little did we know as they left, that as Trent flew on that last flight through the valley at sunset, it was the beginning of his "glory land" flight. Our wish is that God would be glorified, and his kingdom furthered by the life and death of our loved one. The family wishes to thank each one for coming and sharing your kind words, love, prayers, and food during the time of his passing. A special thanks goes to the missionaries who went above and beyond in their recovery efforts after the accident. Also, a heartfelt Thank You to the church at Muscoda for so graciously serving us in many ways during this time of tragedy.

February 4, 1941 - July 20, 2021
Vera Leona (Kropf) Hostetler, beloved wife of Duane Hostetler, peacefully passed away on July 20, 2021, at 80 years of age after having a hemorrhagic stroke on July 12. She was born on February 4, 1941, to Dave and Dorothy Kropf at Tampico, Illinois.
On February 5, 1961, she was united in marriage to Duane Hostetler, sharing life together a little over 60 years.
She accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and was baptized in her youth and was a member of the Mineral Springs Amish Mennonite Church to which she remained faithful.
She is survived by her grieving husband, 2 sons, Kendall and wife Marian of Grandview, TX; Charles and wife Heidi of Nashville, AR; 4 daughters, Julie and husband Delbert Baker of Nashville, AR; Beverly and husband Quill Hostetler of Mena, AR; Evonne and husband Kenneth Kropf of Nashville, AR; Noreen and husband Ryan Hostetler of Nashville, AR; 24 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Stanley Kropf and wife Judy of Mineral Springs, AR and 1 sister, Verna Kropf of Buffalo, MO. Also Aunt Wilma Hostetler and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 infant brothers, 1 granddaughter, Kaitlyn Jewel and 1 great granddaughter, Brianna Jewel.
Grandma, you had so many beautiful qualities. Your inner beauty shone as brightly as your outer beauty. You mastered the concept that the way to a man’s and child’s heart is through their stomach, filling our tummies and warming our hearts with all your baking and meals. Hostetter, David C.
January 7, 1930 - April 15, 2021
David C. Hostetter, 91, died peacefully early Thursday morning, April 15, at the Fairmount Homes.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late David Charles and Elizabeth Rohrer (Shuman) Hostetter.
He was the husband of the late Norma J. (Metzler) Hostetter, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage until her death in 2001.
David was a retired dairy farmer and a member of the Blue Rock Mennonite Church. In his later years, he served as a volunteer at Christian Aid Ministries.
He was the last of his immediate family.
He is survived by three daughters: Rosene wife of Gerald Burkholder of Keenes, IL; Sylvia wife of Wilmer Weaver of Elverson; Sally wife of Myron Nolt of Peach Bottom; and one son, Duane of Mountville; 21 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother Daniel Hostetter and two sisters: Mary Hostetter and Elizabeth Hostetter; and a stillborn infant brother; a daughter-in-law Rose (Doutrich) Hostetter; and a great-grandson, Winfred Campbell.
A funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Blue Rock Mennonite Church with the Brethren David Wadel, Larry Witmer, David Martin, Gerald Shertzer, and Brian Campbell officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday at the church from 2-4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Please omit Flowers. Hostetter, Dennis R.
September 25, 1957 - December 24, 2021
Dennis R. Hostetter, 64, of Stevens, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 24, 2021 following a brief illness. He was the loving and devoted husband of Louise S. (Mast) Hostetter to whom he was married for 41 years. Born in Ephrata, PA he was the son of Viola M. (Good) Hostetter of Denver, and the late Robert C. Hostetter, Sr.
During high school, Dennis worked at the former Nolt’s Ice Co. and when the opportunity arose, he started his own ice delivery service. As his business grew his father, the late Robert C. Hostetter, Sr. and his younger brother Robert C. Hostetter, Jr. joined him in the business. After 43 years he was still actively involved in the business, driving truck and making deliveries of bagged ice to many local business’ in the surrounding counties. He enjoyed dealing with many local customers and wasn’t wishing to retire anytime soon.
Some of his greatest joys were spending time with his three cherished granddaughters, Rebekah, Hannah, and Rachel, and his precious only daughter Kristen and family. He enjoyed working on his farm, raising cattle, gardening, going to the beach, vacations to Florida in the winter and spending time outdoors.
He faithfully attended Pine Grove Church in Bowmansville and served his Lord and Savior Jesus in every area of his life.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother is a daughter, Kristen wife of Warren Lowenthal of East Earl; three granddaughters, Rebekah, Hannah and Rachel Lowenthal; and siblings, Leonard husband of Christina (Neugen) Hostetter of Leola, Fay wife of Daryl Kreider of Lititz, and Robert, Jr. husband of Tracy (Fox) Hostetter of Denver; and many special nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 3, at 11:00 A.M. at Pine Grove Church, 1194 Reading Road, Bowmansville, PA. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery. Viewings will be held at the church on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. and on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.

Allan Martin Huber, of New Holland, PA, passed away peacefully at Lancaster General Hospital on September 4, 2021, surrounded by family.
Born to John and Mable Huber on January 23, 1954, Al was a Volkswagen enthusiast and owner of Huber Auto Sales and Service, followed by twenty years of service as a beloved chaplain at Lancaster County Prison.
Al is survived by Anna (Reiff) his wife of 48 years; four daughters, Christa Reuel (Jonathan), Jewel Ruhland (Greg), Mindi Hoover (Sheldon), Leann Pavelik (Brian) and a son, Jose Pagan (Tina); 15 grandchildren, Chiara, Adelei, Bennett, Zeke, Eden, Hadassah, Hosanna, Saraiah, Gabriel, Sonya, Micah, Mason, Aaron, Josh and Andrew.
Also surviving his mother, siblings, Earl Huber (Mary Ann), Mary Ann Huber, Esther Hoover (Edwin), John Huber (Mary Ellen), Nelson Huber (Kara). Preceded in death by his father and sister Miriam Nolt (Nelson).
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Petra Church, 565 Airport Rd., New Holland, PA 17557. There will be a visitation held from 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM on Thursday, and Wednesday, September 8, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Petra Church. Anna M. Huber, 90, of New Holland, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021, at her home. She was born in New Holland to the late Aaron M. and Elizabeth W. (Martin) Hoover and was the wife of the late Lloyd K. Huber who passed away in 1994. Anna was a member of Groffdale Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.
She is survived by seven children, Edith, wife of Aaron Burkholder of Richland, MaryAnn, wife of Edwin Nolt of New Bloomfield, AnnaMae, wife of Mervin Martin of Richland, Luella, wife of Glenn Martin of Lebanon, Rhoda, wife of Harvey Snyder of New Holland, Mervin, husband of Nancy (Hursh) Huber of Stevens, Elvin, husband of Vera Mae (Martin) Huber of Reinholds, 41 grandchildren; 172 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth, wife of the late Norman Hahn of Ephrata; a brother-in-law, Samuel, husband of Verna Hahn of Terre Hill and a sister-in-law, Ella Mae, wife of the late Martin Hoover of Lebanon and her caregiver, Priscilla L. Martin of New Holland.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her step mother, Emma Hoover Horning; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Phares and Martin Hoover; two sisters, Mary Weaver and Alta Hahn.

Mabel H. Huber, 88, formerly of New Holland, a resident of the Lincoln Christian Home, Ephrata, passed away at the home on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. She was married 67 years to the late John Nolt Huber who died June 20, 2020. Born in Brownstown, she was the daughter of the late David M. and Alta Hoover Martin.
Mabel was a homemaker and a member of the Bowmansville Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.
Surviving are three sons, Earl husband of Mary Ann Huber of Reinholds, John husband of Mary Ellen Huber of New Holland, and Nelson husband of Kara Huber of New Holland; two daughters, Mary Ann Huber of Denver, and Esther wife of Edwin Hoover of Denver; a son-in-law, Nelson husband of Jane Nolt of Lititz; a daughter-in-law, Anna Huber of New Holland; 29 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren; two brothers, David H. husband of Rhoda Martin of Newmanstown, and Emanuel H. husband of Susan Martin of Millersville; three sisters, Rebecca Brubacker of Richland, Florence wife of Samuel Nolt of East Greenville, and Anna wife of Roy Zeiset of Greencastle; two brothers-in-law, Charles Martin and Marvin Wise; and a sister-in-law, Verna Martin. She was preceded in death by a son, Allan Huber, a daughter, Miriam Nolt, a great-granddaughter, Kailey Wenger; brothers, Aaron, Norman and Melvin Martin and by sisters, Laura Martin and Miriam Wise.

Hurst, Chester M.
December 19, 1940 - July 4, 2021
Chester M. Hurst, 80, of Mount Joy (formerly from Terre Hill) transitioned from this life to his eternal life with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, on July 4, 2021. Chet was born in 1940 to the late Noah S. and Eva M. Hurst at their home close to Churchtown. He was one of thirteen children born into their family. Chet and his wife, Kathryn (Snader) Hurst, were married in 1961 and would have celebrated sixty years of marriage later this year.
After a long and distinguished career in the trucking industry, Chet put his professional driving skills to use in transporting clients and friends from the plain community during his retirement. He greatly valued the friendships that he made prior to and after his retirement.
In addition to investing in his relationships with his Lord and family, Chet was intentional in his involvement with the community. He served for many years with the Terre Hill Fire Co. both as a former member and chief and was awarded a lifetime membership in 2005. He was also a faithful member of Goodville Mennonite Church for many years and he very much missed the in person fellowship with other parishioners during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also put his driving and carpentry skills to good use by participating in various mission projects throughout his lifetime.
Chet loved God's creation and he created many happy memories with his loved ones at Shay Road Rod & Gun Club in Lycoming County, of which he was a founding member. His family and friends have many wonderful memories of traveling and spending days afield with him. His travels took him to all of the states in the continental United States and to many of the Canadian provinces.
In addition to his love for Jesus, Chet had a deep and abiding love for his wife, Kathryn, who survives him. He also had a great love for his children, Cliff (Chris) of Salunga, C. Scott (Lisa) of Terre Hill, Melody (Kurt) Zimmerman of Denver, and Kristy (Jeff) Yoder of Mount Joy. He also adored his nine grandchildren, Caryn Hurst, Beth (Dominic) Miller, Andy (Kristen) Zimmerman, Katie (Darren) Fisher, Ben (Sheila) Hurst, Emily (Caleb) Stoltzfus, Nic Hurst, Josh Yoder, and Caleb Yoder; his nine great-grandchildren, Lilly, Charlotte, Eva, and Violet Miller; Noah, Ashton, and Jonah Zimmerman; Weston Fisher; and Colton Stoltzfus; his sisters, Irene (Richard) Good, Mabel Long, Elsie (Charles) Childers, and Louella VanPelt; and his sisters-in-law, Lydia Ann Hurst, Ella Hurst, and Ella Hurst (Isaac) Zimmerman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Melvin, Emma, Edwin, Walter, Mary, Earl, Marvin, and Raymond. He was also preceded in death by an infant great- grandchild, Dakota Zimmerman.
Throughout his life here on earth, Chet experienced many physical ailments. As such, the family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the numerous physicians and health care workers who provided him with excellent care. Their efforts are greatly appreciated.
Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. A celebration of life service will be held at on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at 5 p.m. at Weaverland Anabaptist Faith Community, 210 Weaverland Valley Rd., East Earl, which is where Chet & Kathy were married and began their journey as husband and wife. Hurst, Louis, Sr.
August 4, 1924 - March 1, 2021
Ephrata - Louis Hurst, Sr., 96, of Ephrata, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021, at Fairmount Homes.
He was born in Caernarvon Township to the late Daniel and Hettie Ann (Weaver) Hurst and was the husband of the late Miriam B. Hurst with whom he shared 70 years of marriage before she passed away in 2014.
He was a member of New Haven Mennonite Church, Lititz.
Louis was a man of many experiences in his vocational life and was retired from numerous businesses that he owned along with his wife.
He had a generous heart and was on numerous mission trips and volunteered for local ministries.
He enjoyed working in his shop with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed traveling with his wife. Attending antique auctions was another activity he enjoyed.
His family will always remember his sense of humor and quick wit and he will be greatly missed.
Louis is survived by four children, Erla, wife of Carl B. Weaver of Ephrata, Melvin, husband of Arlene (Weaver) Hurst of Ephrata, Glenn, husband of Karen Kay (Martin) Hurst of Stevens, Louis, husband of Sharon Louise (Eberly) Hurst of Ephrata; 20 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Erma, wife of Lester Newswanger; a granddaughter, Mariah Grace Hurst; seven brothers, Weaver, Clarence, Earl, James, John, Paul, and Edwin and three sisters, Betty Newswanger, Ruth Weaver, Mary Jane Stauffer.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2021, from 1 to 4 PM at the New Haven Mennonite Church, 230 Crest Road, Lititz. An additional viewing will be held on Monday, March 8, 2021 from 9 to 10 AM at the church followed by funeral services at 10 AM with the New Haven Mennonite ministry officiating. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.
